The Soul’s Power Every living thing has a soul, but not all the souls are the same. The soul in most of the religions and philosophical traditions is defined as the source of life in a living thing. The great philosopher Aristotle said that all of living things have souls but it differs as plants have nutritive souls , animals has sentient souls and humans have Logical souls. In Never Let Me Go Kazuo Ishiguro is showing how important the soul is, by showing how three clones whose lives are decided for them since the day they were born are totally different from the people they were copied from. As the moment they were cloned, somehow they had developed a souls in their bodies which made them totally different persons who think and have different personalities. Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go is ironically parallel to Plato’s Allegory of the cave as the clones learn the truth of their existence as â€Å"the mind is more real than the body†. Kathy, Ruth and Tommy spend the first 16 years of their lives in the cave in Hailsham. Hailsham is a real estate gem who’s perfect for hiding clones that want to pretend don’t exist.
